I'm not a big fan of Fat Fat but I respect her and I do love watching her. I share the feelings of a lot of HK people that Fat Fat, and of course her laughter, grew up with us. And to be quite frank, I was upset when I first heard of the fact that she's left us.
But I just don't understand why we had to have this "SHOW" at the HK Coliseum yesterday.
I mean, yea Fat Fat's a great person and her passing away is a huge (I doubt even this use of "huge" is appropriate but anyway) loss to Hong Kong. But there were lots of other more prominent people that have died before and did not enjoy quite the same treatment (eg. our SARS heroes), if you know what I mean. My point is why are we making such a BIG deal of someone, who is (bear with me to add) JUST an actress, passing away? It pains me to say that the memorial service at the HK Coliseum yesterday was like a SHOW to me, though certainly not the intention (well, I hope not) of the organisers.
The most ridiculous thing I heard from the news went participants were not allowed to bring any flower with COLOUR (apart from white that is) into the venue, apart from white orchids or champagne-coloured roses I think. Who in the world set up such a stupid "regulation"? I mean if I was to go and pay tribute to someone I like and brought flowers with me, that's because I wanna show my condolences. Why on earth should I be abide by this absolutely nonsense? And why the hell did the organiser make public the 2 "official" florists for this particular event? So this is BUSINESS after all, isn't it?
To make matters worse, the memorial oration (supposedly) made by this Mr Tang has turned this memorial event to a soap opera. Oh dear me, you bastard have completly disregarded the feelings of Fat Fat's family and all the friends and people who were at the venue yesterday. It's such a shame and almost painful to watch. You claim yourself a close friend of Fat Fat but you just couldn't pay her a tiny respect on that occasion? You are a joke!
I'm not saying that Fat Fat's former husband is a great man. On the contrary, I believe he should be condemned for what he did (or what he failed to do) and rightfully so. But everyone could see that yesterday was not the occasion to raise that issue.
All in all, I just don't think the memorial service yesterday was necessary. Genuine mourners pay their tribute to Fat Fat in their heart. We certainly don't need a "monkey show" to show our respect.
